A Typical Day at Nursery

At both our Nurseries children are offered a healthy mixture of different activities throughout the day, which will include creative play, activities to help with numeracy and literacy, construction and problem-solving, story time, dance and movement, rest and relaxation. Weather permitting, children will have at least one outing each day to the local park, library or other places of interest.
Our day starts between 7.30am and 9am, greeting parents and settling children in. Children can have breakfast if required, or take part in quiet, supervised play.
After breakfast children have a variety of opportunities for play. Babies and toddlers may be offered sand and water play, treasure baskets and other sensory experiences.
Older children are able to play in any of the workshop areas including, writing and mark marking, construction, creative play, book corner, ICT and home corner. In addition, each day has a focus activity such as cooking, arts, crafts, ICT and much much more.
Snacks are available on a self service basis with lunch at 12:00. Babies and younger children will have a sleep after lunch with quiet time for the older ones. Appropriate classical music is played during this time to create a calm atmosphere.
The afternoon session is programmed in a similar way to the morning, with a different focus activity for children who attend all day.
Rest time is followed by a walk in the park and maybe some simple outside games. The children come back to the Nursery in time for a healthy two-course tea, followed by more free-play such as dressing up and imaginative play using pretend shops, homes etc.
At the end of the day children are encouraged to help clean up and put away equipment and gather their things together ready for home. Staff will be on hand at collection to talk to you about your child's day, discuss their daily diary and generally answer any questions you may have.
